In-house Training
Certified Electrician for High-Voltage Batteries & Live Working
(Elektrofachkraft für Hochvolt Batterien & Arbeiten unter Spannung – EFKBAT & AuS)
Duration:
5 days
Format:
In-person
Participants:
Max. 8
Completion:
Written examination / assessment of practical work / certificate
In high-voltage systems with voltages exceeding 60 V DC, safe isolation is not always possible, such as during fault diagnostics, repairs, or certain testing procedures. In such cases, specific measures for Live Working are required to perform technical interventions safely and in compliance with standards.
This training course covers the specific requirements for the planning, organisation and execution of Live Working on high-voltage storage devices and other HV components. Participants will learn how to correctly prepare Hazard Assessments and work instructions, use the required personal protective equipment (PPE), and implement appropriate working methods.
A particular focus is placed on the legally compliant assessment and documentation of measures, as well as on the practical application of all technical, organisational, and personal protective measures. In addition, participants will receive an overview of topics such as battery assessment and the safe storage of defective HV batteries.
In the practical section, participants will carry out a complete live working task, such as troubleshooting insulation problems, securing defective high-voltage storage devices, or working on welded contactors. The training manager will individually assess the execution using an evaluation form.
This qualification is essential for all certified electricians who need to work safely and responsibly on HV systems that cannot be isolated.
- Hazards from lithium-ion batteries
- Preparation of risk assessments and work instructions
- Carrying out instructions
- Organization and implementation of Live Working
This course is designed for individuals who will be working independently in the development or production of high-voltage energy storage systems, possibly also working on systems above 60 V DC under live conditions.
You will learn:
- to understand and apply the fundamental occupational safety principles and organisations in the context of high-voltage batteries, including the qualification requirements for working on such systems
- Conducting Hazard Assessments, identifying and implementing appropriate safety measures, as well as creating work instructions and conducting training.
- Perform measurements on HV energy storage systems, including the measurement of equipotential bonding and insulation resistances
- assess the plausibility of measured values and evaluate whether they meet the normative requirements
- know and implement the organizational requirements for live working
- apply safety measures to minimize the risk of insulation faults on HV components and cables and to be able to work safely on the vehicle
- work safely on batteries with voltages above 60 V DC and use the necessary personal protective equipment correctly
- Certified electricians from other fields

FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
What specific activities does this training qualify for?
This training course enables the execution of measurement and repair work on HV batteries above 60 V DC – even under voltage – in compliance with the Hazard Assessment and PPE guidelines.
What are the requirements for participating in the EFK BAT & AuS training course?
Teilnehmende müssen eine Qualifikation als „Elektrofachkraft für festgelegte Tätigkeiten Hochvolt Zellen/Module < 60 V DC – EFKffT BAT“ oder vergleichbare elektrotechnische Kenntnisse nachweisen.
Is live working part of the practical training?
Yes, the practical part includes typical activities such as insulation testing or securing faulty HV storage systems - including assessment by the trainers using realistic exercise scenarios.
Which PPE is mandatory for Live Working ?
The personal protective equipment depends on the system and activity-related requirements and is agreed with the respective company before training begins.
Can company-specific HV systems also be integrated into the training?
Yes, that is possible. Content can be developed as part of our Training Development can be adapted to individual system environments.
